Introducing...
Pam Prepura
Location: Bolingbrook
,

Date of Amputation/Cause: I was in a car accident on
October 16, 2000, I was hit by a semi tractor-trailer from the rear. My arm was
crushed in the door from the wrist to the elbow and was hanging on by skin. The
doctors reattached it at my request, but the reattachment failed (I got a severe
infection). My arm was amputated on October 31, 2000.
Prosthesis: I have a body activated arm with a hook &
hand. It has a modified figure 8 harness. I HATE it. I wore it for about 9
months, but decided I could do more without it. I really missed being able to
feel things and I found it to be very uncomfortable. I haven't totally given up
on a prosthesis, I've been checking into hybrids. For now though I go
"naked" all of the time. Hopefully I'll find one that will be useful
to me someday......
Amp Events Attended: I've been to the One Arm Dove Hunt in 2001,
2002 & 2004. I'm a big fan of this event, I would and do recommend it to
everyone (Ha-ha). I went to the ACA conference in
Annaheim
,
CA
in 2002, and the I-CAN meeting in 2004. I've also attended a few local amputee
events through the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
Other Information: My husband John & I have been together
for 22 years. We have no human children but are the proud owners of a 9 year old
English Bulldog (Rosie) and two 4 month old Daschunds (Jamie & Sammy). A
year after I lost my arm I also lost my job, I am currently unemployed.
