Introducing...
Jan Jackson
Location: Tulsa
OK
Date of Amputation/Cause: Oct. 26th, 2002 / My
heart threw a blood clot which lodged in my left arm. I had no blood
pressure and was in full cardiac arrest for 45 minutes. My 16 year old son
gave me CPR.
Prosthesis: I have a Hybird. The elbow is manual, and the
hand is Myo. I really did things backwards, and I wish I knew then what I know
now, because I had my arm made right after my heart attack, (as soon as my arm
got strong enough to open the hand). Since then, I have lost 45 lbs. and
exercise at a gym almost everyday. Hanger has re-made the insides of my
arm so it works now, but it looks way too big for my body and I don't think the
insurance would like to pay for another one this soon. It is heavy, wraps around
my back and under my other arm. It feels very confining, and not all
clothes fit with it. The more I get used to being without my arm, the less
I wear it.
Amp Events Attended: I went to a
conference with Hanger here in
Tulsa
, so future Pros. could see mine. There was also several other amps there.
Other Information: I am 50 years old. I work 2 days a
week with kindergarten and first grade, with a
Reading
program. I have a 29 year old daughter, a 18 year old son, and a 8 year old
grand-daughter.
