Introducing...
Dena Foster
Location: McAlpin
,
Florida
Date of Amputation/Cause: I was injured by an aircraft
propeller in August 1995 when I was 47 years old. My left arm was
amputated at the elbow, my abdomen gashed open, and I was very fortunate to
survive. We were working on our homebuilt aircraft (gyrocopter) at the
time.
Prosthesis: I have a body powered arm with a hook & hand
and a modified figure 8 harness. I wore it for a few months, but was so
uncomfortable that I gave up on it. The prosthesis now hangs on my kitchen
wall as a towel holder!
Amp Events Attended: I've been to the One Arm Dove Hunt in 2001,
2002, 2005 and 2006. Olney is a long way away for me, but the warmth and
camaraderie of the Hunt keeps me going back as often as I can, although I have
no interest in guns or hunting. I've also attended a few local amputee events,
but they are few and far between. In 2007, I hope to also attend the ACA
convention in
Atlanta
.
Other Information: My husband of 22 years, Ted Watts, died in
2001. I have no children, but my stepchildren have provided four grandkids.
I live way out in the country in northern
Florida
at a grass strip airport, but am planning to move to a condo (and get away from
yardwork!) sometime soon.
