Introducing...
Alan Macias
Location:
I live in San Francisco with my wife, Marilyn, and two dogs.
Date of Amputation/Cause: December 17, 1997. A
motorcycle mishap and then eight months in the hospital and about fifty
operations to put me back together again. My left leg was crushed; it was
saved, it works so so, I am still too young/active for a total knee replacement
so that will have to wait. My left arm had major nerve damage from
being over extended, they saved it but it did not work at all and was always in
the way, so a year after my final operation I decided to have my left arm
amputated, I decided to leave enough arm/stump so I could wear a short sleeve
shirt.
Prosthesis: After growing up with the Bionic Man, Star
Trek and Star Wars I am not very excited by the state of the art when it comes
to prosthetic devices. I so far just do most everything one handed or with a
little help from my friends.
Amp Events Attended: I belong to a local amputee club called Stumps R
Us here in the San Francisco bay area
Other Information: I work servicing, repairing and installing Special
Hazard Fire Systems, these are fire detection systems that monitor specialized
areas and put out the fire with gasses or foams depending on what is burning.
